![]() When it comes to books, there truly is something for everyone of every age. Or read a non-fiction book on a subject that interests you. Alternatively, read an author you enjoy, or one you haven’t read yet. Don’t wait until the last minute! No matter what school you attend, don’t be afraid to challenge yourself with one or more classics by Dickens or Austen or Hemingway. If you’re a student at Notre Dame, you’ll have summer reading. Even though you may want to put away the books, you’ll thank yourself to keep your mind active. With that in mind, let this be the summer you try your hand at cooking or baking, embark on an activity out of your comfort zone like archery or fencing, or take a class for sign language, CPR, or self-defense. One need not climb a mountain or jump from an airplane to find adventure. (Thanks, condensation of water vapor from the Great Lakes!) So take advantage of these few months of warmth and sun by exercising, gardening, stargazing or anything else in our beautiful great outdoors. Another interesting fact: Detroit has sunshine only 49 percent of the year. It’s no surprise then that our average yearly temperature is 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Michigan has a “humid continental climate,” typified by large seasonal temperature differences. You can see the full list of camps and register here. Not sporty? Try one of our “academic” camps for pursuits like speech and debate, theatre, and STEM. From football to soccer, basketball to baseball and lots more in between, athletes can improve their knowledge and skills from our outstanding coaches at our excellent facilities. Notre Dame offers myriad summer camps for children of all ages. So before then, here are some suggestions on how students can make the most of their time away. And even though we will make lasting memories through both ordinary and epic experiences, we know inevitably the season will come to an when the 2021-22 school year gets under way. The season always begins with great promise. After a few days of well-deserved rest, we know some of them will start working, many will travel, and all will find time to safely reconnect with family and friends near and far. Summer officially begins on June 20, but Notre Dame students will be getting a head start after the final exam period concludes on June 8.
